my good friend martin has recently returned from the arctic refuge (ANWR) where he spent several weeks on an expedition, headed by renown biologist George Shaller, and author John Waterman. their small group followed in the footsteps of the Muries: tracing the 1956 expedition. equipped with original photographs, they studied from the same vantage point, climate change- a sort of arctic inventory.

this morning, npr did an appropriate story highlighting the trip on morning addition, and an extended interview with Shaller.

Shaller's words: "if the wilderness is worth enjoying, it's worth fighting for"
